In communities of return, integration or relocation, and in communities where returnees are living in severe conditions, IOM provided a multi-sectoral set of activities and services through an area-based approach aimed at reducing identified barriers to returns and at increasing the likelihood of successful (re)integration of IDPs, and at the same time minimizing potential risks of tensions in communities. These activities included shelter rehabilitation or reconstruction and improving access to basic services, such as water, electricity, education and health, among others. IOM also conducted interventions targeted at mitigating the risk of climate-induced displacement, in particular related to drought, water scarcity and floods. Quick impact projects (QIPs) conducted to enable access to basic service for IDPs, returnees and host communities, and therefore support conditions for sustainable return and integration. (more…)
